Why do movies advertise that they are UNRATED? What makes an unrated movie so attractive?
“Unrated”, or “not yet rated,” means that the MPAA hasn’t rated the movie yet. You typically hear this in trailers before the movie is released. The “NR” designation means that the movie is going or has gone to release without the MPAA rating it. It does not mean “no restrictions”, but rather “not rated.” Since the MPAA remains a voluntary system, it means that the movie was never submitted for rating.
