Why do people become goth and emo?
Well that would depend on if you are talking about actual goths or the old school emo’s or the poseurs and the new emo’s. Goth and the older emo subcultures (goth started in the late 70’s and emo started in the 80’s) are music subcultures… so people get into it because they love goth rock or emo (emotional hardcore punk/emocore) respectively… the two types of music are nothing alike, and the music subcultures really have very little in common. (Note most of the music at hot topic is NOT goth rock.) Goth = avid fan or musician of goth rock, who participates at least a little in the subculture. Emo = avid fan or musician of emo, which was originally 2 music subcultures started in the mid 80’s and mid 90’s started by the bands Rites of Spring and Fugazi respectively.
