WHY DO PEOPLE BUY MANUAL KILNS?
Manual kilns are slightly less expensive and rely on pyrometric cones and manual turn up of kiln input switches to profile the firing cycle. Some people feel more comfortable with “hands on” control and some people don’t want another programmable device in their lives. Manual controls are easier to understand (although not easier to use) and are not subject to electrical noise. That being said, all the catastrophic overfirings L&L is aware of have been caused by manual controls (improper adjustment, dirt in the cone tube assembly, etc.).
