I think one of the biggest reasons is that people are desensitized. Most people, especially in the US have grown up eating meat practically everyday of their lives. Think about all the things you may do because your parents do it, regardless if it makes sense or not. I was thinking the other day how I always use my drier sheets twice. I don’t have a good reason why I do this other than it’s because my mom did that when I was growing up. Religion is a lot like that as well. You’ve grown up with it all your life, so you end up practicing something very similar to the religion you grew up with. You don’t typically hear about people being raised Catholic and becoming Muslim later on (atheism is a different beast entirely). On top of that, we’ve been told it’s healthy. Whether it was through our parents (finish your chicken), TV (milk: does a body good), school, or doctors, most people have basically been reinforcing this belief that meat and animal products are not only good for you, but n
