Why do people hunt animals?
I believe the answer is diverse in the eyes of different people. Starting with survival, it developed to entertainment, study, defence, business and sport. Beginning with needs it has further developed to wants. Looking at the situation from a balanced perspective, it has its own pros and cons. Pros being the education and learning people gain through hunting animals perhaps, for survival training, defending oneself in a life threatening situation, etc. Cons being hunting them for mere amusement causing a decrease in numbers, hunting for just specific parts for money, example, fur, etc. Human civilisation is still in the process of development. Who knows what hunting might be used for later?
I think still this has been happening as a game from the primary era of human even we have developed now. The different mental status would be a cause for the question you answered I think. Otherwise there won’t be any reason to enjoy by looking at an animal who is reaching for the death. We should let them to live peacefully. Can you think about the same situation where someone is chasing to hunt you? 😀
Because it’s fun, and you know exactly where your food is coming from.
You know that the animal didn’t suffer, that it wasn’t locked up in a cage it’s whole life, and that it wasn’t pumped full of steroids. Games are closer to me than real hunting. I apologize if this is answer is shocking, but it is an honest answer. To me, hunting is a very rewarding activity, and I enjoy it. And it’s not just about killing an animal – otherwise I could tie up a hen and shoot it. What makes hunting interesting is being outdoors, walking forest or steppe or lake shore searching for an animal or a bird, pursuing it, sneaking on it, and eventually shooting at it. Apparently, there’s an old instinct that drives us to hunt.
And please don’t think that only people hunt for fun. I spent a good portion of my childhood on a farm. We had a cat whose job was to kill mice. We were often locking a cat in a barn for a night. When at morning I was coming to unlock him, I often was finding a well-fed cat, and pieces of dead mice around. Obviously the cat was killing mice for fun even when he wasn’t hungry. Same thing about my stepfather’s dog – she was hunting mice and rabbits, killing them but not eating them.
