Because people are stubborn and ignorant, or just plain mis-informed! My current Betta is a heavily planted filtered and heated 8 gallon (which has been running about 5 years now) with a few Endlers, only got him at the weekend, but he’s been happily stomping around the tank ignoring the Endlers and being more interested in showing me who’s boss, as well as marking his territory with a nice big bubble nest. To be honest, I feel he’s a bit cramped in the 8 gallon, the way he marches around, even though it’s long rather than tall. If I could upgrade him I would, but my other two big tanks, one is sub-tropical and the other, when its set up, will have fin nippers so that’s a no go. I’ve had most of my Bettas in very similar heavily planted set ups. They are at their most active when they’re nice and warm and have a territory to stomp around. When I have had them in smaller unfiltered tanks (when I was doing daily partial water changes and they were still heated) they were far less energet
