Several reasons actually. Traditionally women have been barred from joining the military in the Western world in any capacity, but slowly they were added on into non-combative roles as nurses, cooks, and other traditionally feminine roles. They now are able (in the US) to participate in every non-combative role available. Combative roles are reserved strictly for men for several reasons including the tremendously high physical stress requirements in such positions, as well as potential psychological effects on all soldiers, male and female, of having women on the front lines (for example a male soldier feeling protective over a female in his unit and making rash or poor decisions on that basis) this reason is essentially the same reason they don’t allow married individuals to serve in the same unit. Same reason they can not join combat arms. For some reason the world thinks a woman is weak. just like when you see a woman was raped, murdered, hurt, what ever you see that stuff on the news about a purse snatcher or what not but you dont see things like that about men. People including male troops just have that instinct to protect women and it would screw them up to see them hurt. So what im trying to say is People associate military with war, war with death and they dont want that to happen to their monther, sisters, daughters, aunts, and what not.
