Why do people live in japan?
Well, maybe its green tea and Zen, but I would disagree that Japan is attracting more people than a slow trickle. There is no magic to it. As James Carville once said, “It’s the economy, stupid.” Most places in Southeast Asia (where the bulk of immigrants come from other than China) face corruption, a wide difference between haves and have-nots, and most of all, just the drudgery of generation after generation of poverty. These are the things, along with ethnic, religion, sectarian violence, etc., that make people willing to leave their home and try somewhere else. What I don’t understand is why immigrants pick a country that is fairly hostile to the whole concept of immigration, where in some schools, children learn that the blood of Japanese people is higher quality blood than that of Filipinos.
