Why are you assuming it’s liberals? I live in a state that is largely republican and we have towns, cities and even counties trying to keep Wal-mart out. You are missing the voices of the people who have already had their economies seriously impacted by Wal-Mart. Pick up a Wal-Mart branded map book of the US. I don’t whine about mom and pop stores being gone. I just don’t like how people have to bow to the wishes of the rich and powerful stores just in the name of the capitalist political machine. Capitalism and Communism (in the Soviet Union) all had the same result…the loss of choice in how you live your life in the name of some “higher” ideology. I’m sure that people living in the Soviet union didn’t have to pay a lot for their stuff either. They didn’t have a choice. Maybe we can live with less stuff so that smaller, more expensive store owners can hold onto their life’s work. You should read Vaclev Havel’s Open Letters if you really are interested. Its a good read no matter what your ideology.
