Why do people recommend de clawing there cats?

i have two cats and would never dream about declawing them yes it may save your sofa ect but if that sort of thing bothers you then you should not have a cat in the first place,i don’t think i would like my fingers taking off for no reason.my cats are house cats and are not bothered about going outside they have never been outside and know no different and all their claws are intact although i do trim them when they get a bit long but only so they don’t grow into the pads on their feet.

I guess people would do it to ensure they don’t scratch people or furniture. It may also be done so if a cat’s claw gets caught on something, they don’t rip it and tear their paw. I too, agree its a cruel thing to do, as the cat has claws for a reason-as defense, and need hem to defend themselves if being attacked. You never know when they might get attacked. I think the best thing is simply keeping their claws blunt by nipping the very sharp ends off, so they can’t scratch really hard (but still enough to hurt you – trust me!), but can still defend themselves. Hope that helps!
