Why do Singaporeans needs weekend cars?
Basically OPC was introduced based on the need. Everyone know car in Singapore is the most expensive in the world, with 110% ARF, 20% Duty and COE, it’s will cost more than 2 times a normal car price from other countries. But, in order to allow more Singaporean to owe a car, and not causing too much congestion to the road during normal working hour, Weekend Car (Currently is called Off Peak Car) was introduced. As a consumer point of view, if I spend my office hour (8a.m to 7pm) in the officer, and my car ideal-ling in the car park, it’s make sense for me to get a OPC, when I only need to use it after my work for leisure or family outing. Of course, it don’t make sense to get a OPC if you need to use the car the whole day. If you have noticed, OPC on the road are normally low end car, which cost not more than $60,000.
