Those who take the precepts for not getting married and who stays in the monastery community are known as monks. A monk is forbidden to get married. Tulkus and Rinpoches are those who are incarnated lamas. Tulkus and Rinpoches may be a monk who do not marry or there may be some Tulkus and Rinpoches who may not be monks and who can get married. These married Tulkus and Rinpoches are generally known as Ngagpas which means lay practitioners. Some of these Ngagpa Tulkus and Rinpoches may wear similar red robes like monks but that doesn’t mean they are monk. Therefore, one must not see all Tulkus and Rinpoches as monks just because they wear similar red robes like other monks. Therefore there could be some Ngagpa Tulkus and Rinpoches too. There are also some Ngagpa Tulkus and Rinpoches who do not wear red robes like the monks and some of them may wear different robes according to different conditions.
