Why do Symphonic Rock/Metal groups always refer to winter in their songs?

Good question. One that I have wondered for a while. I mainly listen to Symphonic metal, so I have noticed this. I don’t know for sure, but I think it’s because they tend to have a lot of fantasy themed lyrics, and winter and snow seem to coincide with that I guess. I have also heard a lot of Symphonic metal songs with the word “Ocean” in them a lot.

Well, the best Symph Rock / Metal groups are from Europe, specifically Norway and Sweden. So I can see how it makes sense. Good point though, I guess I never thought of it.
