Why do the men going on Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah and the Kaah) have to wear white?
White is a symbol of purity and cleanliness, so when pilgrims are dressed in two pieces of white clothing they remember how pure and clean they should make their intentions, both during and after the pilgrimage. Moreover, wearing the same colour and style of dress as everyone else, regardless of their differences of race, colour and social class, gives the pilgrims a profound sense of brotherhood and equality before their Creator. The same applies to women, except that they must cover their whole bodies apart from their hands and face.
