Why does caffeine salicylate have a higher melting point than caffeine or salicylic acid?
It is often the case the the larger the molecular mass of an object, the higher the melting point. As well, the way the crystals are packed together affects melting point of a chemical. Perhaps the caffeine salycylate just packs itself more efficiently into a crystal. It’s more likely a combination of both points above that would give you the correct answer. Hope that helps!
