Why does Calvin have a college-level vocabulary? And why does he still struggle in the language arts, not to mention math?!
I think Calvins extraordinary vocabulary accentuates his inability to learn the things hes supposed to and focus on things that arent that important. A lot of people can memorize a dictionary, and Calvin can learn a lot from things that interest him. Furthermore, when you see how some 12-year-old kids graduate from college nowadays, Calvins precocious vocabulary skills dont seem too unrealistic; hes certainly not a dumb kid by any means. Calvin seems like a rather extreme, but still possible, case of someone who would score much, much higher on a verbal SAT than a math one, and I think his math struggles are symbolic of how a lot of people make problems harder than they are when they are stuck on something. Some people say he gets bored by class because its so far below his ability level, but I think its more of a case of him not being interested in the same subject material and tendency to put the cart before the horse and miss the forest for the trees (i.e. wants to study dinosaurs m
