Why does Cooler Skies Company not fund offsets from tree planting or by changing agricultural practice?
The problem with buying or selling carbon offsets from reforestation or tree planting projects is that there is no guarantee that the trees will continue to grow and absorb and store carbon dioxide after they are planted, and so we believe the quality of the offsets is not as high as the projects we do support. Besides, climate change needs to be addressed by reducing emissions through developing renewable fuel sources or boosting efficiency, rather than on focusing on sequestration. Don’t get us wrong, we wholly support tree-planting, and encourage everyone to support it. Approximately 20% of greenhouse gas emissions each year are the result of deforestation and forest fires, if you want to help reforestation, contact the Tree Canada Foundation: It’s a great way to provide money to plant trees. We encourage everyone to support them in their efforts to plant more trees. Tree Canada’s website is: www.treecanada.ca 6. How does the Cooler Skies Company rate the quality of project offsets?
