Why does Fusion Dance require a dress code?
Since dance is an art form where students are working with their bodies, teachers need to be able to see the dancer’s form in order to make corrections. A dancer with a huge tee shirt or baggy sweat pants is hidden from the teacher. If a student is using his/her body in the wrong way, the teacher might never be able to see it under loose clothing. Also, dancewear is made to help keep a dancer’s muscles warm, preventing injury. Hip-Hop class is more lenient because of the style of dance. Having a ballet class (or a competition class) wear all of the same color helps the teacher notice when bodylines are different from dancer to dancer. In competition classes a dress code also keeps the students working as a team.
