Hollywood has discovered that people will not sit through movies of much greater duration than 2 to 2 1/2 hours. So they won’t come. Movie theaters, that Hollywood depends on, absolutely hate intermissions. They are dead time where the theater makes some money from concessions, but not much. Four intermissions in one day can add up to an additional showing of the film, and consequently, more money. Second. Hollywood isn’t in the business of charitably bringing authors’ works to the screen. They’re in it for the money.
