I’ve never heard of “stages” to bipolar and have no idea where you are getting that. If you are querry on it, that probably explains why you are coming up blank. Also, if you have only experienced depression, then you have what’s called soft bipolar or bipolar III. Hypomania is subthreshhold mania, not depression. Depending on your symptoms, some pdocs consider it refractory depression that only responds to mood stabilizers. There’s some controversy in the area that supposedly will be cleared up in the DSM V due out in a few years. (I’m not an expert, but do know that this is standard language on this part of the bipolar spectrum.) This site might help some. It has info on soft bipolar. I’m not sure if has info on lack of insight, but assume that it has something. Search on bipolar II or bipolar III in general. Lack of insight is common to the illness.
