Why does ImgMan not recognise LZW-compressed files?

UniSys hold the patent for the LZW compression algorithm and as such it was dropped from Revision 6 of the TIFF specification back in 1992. Although some applications still use the LZW compression format, it is not an open public-domain format. As such, we felt it was an inappropriate algorithm to deploy within ImgMan. The TIFF v6.0 (current) specification was released on the 3rd of June 1992 and is maintained by Adobe.
