Why Does Latex Rubber Rug Backing On Reproduction Oriental Wool Rug Made In India Smell Like Burnt Rubber?

0

The rug smells like burnt rubber. It is less than 2 years old. I have researched the chemical components of the latex rubber backing, but don’t understand which ones give the burnt smell. The chemicals listed are sulfur, natural rubber, styrene butadiene as well as water. Heat is applied and foaming and gelling agents also are used. Also, a natural latex mattress smells so bad that it is impossible to get close enough to sleep on it. It is supposed to be OK for chemically sensitive persons.
