Why does modern music suck nowadays?

If you acted more like a music scout, you would find music like they found music. Nowadays the producers create their own artists (see Making the Band). Now that producers have no pop bands to cover (for instance the Monkeys were ripped off from the Beetles) they are stuck in neutral stealing old acts which create a boring staleness.

Sorry “Shake” but I think those are the types of bands Pokey is referring to. It’s not just music though, it’s everything that sucks. There’s a remedy though. Ignore all technology invented in the last 30 years, put on some comfortable shoes (running shoes) and hit some nature trails/mountains and check out the views (and the endorphin rush). Don’t come back for at least 2 hours. It’s the best thing ever.

Mainstream music has always sucked. Brainless pop (Lady Gaga) doesn’t pretend to be anything but brainless garbage. You have to be wiling to sift through mindless scene crap. A lot of bands are doing unique things. Eluveitie is very good. You have to remember that the bands you just named were the best from a whole 10 years of music. You have to compare them to bands of comparable skill.

Yeah, I agree. Most instruments are done with the computer now, except for Alternative and Indie rock, which is probably the only genres that give out good music as of now. And what’s good now would be considered the pop junk in the nineties! And considered music of the squares in the 50s-70s. 80s was just a bad bad time, and 90s we started picking it up again. But, I must point out, I don’t really agree with people when they put Pearl Jam in the list of 90’s best. I mean, if you really get into it, Pearl Jam was just a bad interpretation of the music in their original era, not to mention each song of theirs sounds basically the same, deep wallowing vocals that just drone on and cheesy ballad riffs, but I guess they’re one of those bands that aren’t a set in stone great bands for most people like Nirvana is. Same with Smashing Pumpkins, but I guess the main thing that all those bands have in common is/was their ability to change music. I mean, imagine how hard it must have been for 90s

Yeah, I think the pioneering in music (where it influenced a ton of people or brought out a brand new sound) kinda stopped after about 1994 or 95, especially for rock bands. I agree the best stuff is usually from older bands like Green Day that are still around. The mainstream has largely sucked, and ironically I think it’s because rock is still trying to hold onto the grunge/alternative sound of the early-mid 90s, but without elements that made it good. I mean just watered down crap like Nickelback, The Fray and Daughtry (they try to make any mainstream rock singer sound like that, probably since they’ve decided “hey that’s what sells”). The only thing I kinda disagree with you on is Lady Gaga (although I see what you’re saying). I like the synthy pop sound of her and Kay Perry, they seem 80s to me for that reason, and alot of my favorite music is from then, lol.
