Why does my live status say “Offline” even though I really AM online with iChatAV?
The live status indicator works by asking the AOL server if you’re available for chats. If your privacy settings are too restrictive, it won’t be able to determine your status. If you want it to work all the time, then you’ll need to go to Preferences → Privacy and set it to the top option: “Allow Anyone”. Beyond that, the AIM server is kinda inconsistent with it’s “Chat Status” availability. The script simple asks the server and reports back that AOL’s server says. There’s not much I can do other than that. If you really want to, you can use the “Always Online” option under My Profile → Account Information which will make you always look like you’re online. However, people will get a “User Not Online” error from you too when you’re really not online.
