Why does my tap water look cloudy but later clears as it sits?
Cloudy water is caused by air bubbles in the water and is harmless. This usually happens as it gets colder outside since cold water holds more air than warm water. In addition to the temperature change, water leaving our reservoirs and entering our distribution pipes becomes pressurized. Pressurized water holds more air than non-pressurized water. Once the water comes out of your tap it is no longer pressurized and the air is released as bubbles.
