Why does one feel depressed after a heavy gym workout?

0

Well physiologically one should feel good after a workout, unless you are over-working yourself. It could also be that you are comparing yourself with other people in the gym a little too much and getting psychologically depressed. I remember when i started working out, most of the times I would be looking at the big guys benching 350 lbs, while i was having a hard time even benching 80 lbs. That would seriously put me down. Not seeing immediate results could also be a downer. But trust me, if you keep pursuing you gym endeavour, you will start feeling better.

I’m not so sure that what you’re describibg is really depression. I think it’s noraml to feel the BLAH feeling when you work out that hard….but I would say it’s more a feeling of being drained of energy. When you have nothing left it’s a bit of a struggle to finish the rest of the day. Especially if you’re like me and you do it in the morning. I disagree with some of the answers to this question and I want to make this clear- It does not mean that you are working out too hard. If you want to keep seeing results it is necessary to push yourself to these extremes. Althletes often push themselves until they feel like throwing up. It confuses your body and keeps you from reaching a plateau. That being said, you probably should not be doing this on a daily basis and there are other methods you can try which will do the same thing but not make you feel this way. Try taking a full week to two weeks off…trust me it really works! Once you get back after that kind of a break you’re body hurt
