Most likely it’s a dirty or scratched disc. I’ve gotten rental DVDs that look like someone used a belt sander on them. In those cases I just return the DVD and say it’s damaged or won’t play in my unit. They just give me another one. You can minimize this by cleaning the DVDs yourself. Take a soft cloth, or an old t-shirt, and wipe the disc. Use short strokes going from the hub outwards. Do not use a round/polishing motion as you could end up making the disc worse. Do not use those “Disc Doctor” products – they don’t work, and will most likely scratch the disc.
