Why does weather move from West to East across the United States? Predicting Weather Most weather conditions across the United States move from west to east. Moving weather conditions are due to wind patterns across the earth .In any given place, a clue to tomorrow’s weather may be found by looking at the weather of the area to the west
This occurs because of the coriolis force (the rotation of the earth on its axis). The earth spins around from west to east, which causes winds to deflect to the right in the northern hemisphere, and to the left in the southern hemisphere. The United States is in the northern hemisphere, so winds travel to the right, aka.from west to east. These winds carry weather across the United States by blowing clouds and other various weather conditions towards the area the winds are blowing towards, therefore seeing as wind travels from the west to the east in the United States, weather will also always travel from the west to the east in the United States. I hope I have helped.
Good question. One might think it would go the opposite direction, because the earth’s rotation is from west to east (that’s why the sun appears to rise in the east). I’m guessing it’s because colder air (being more dense) flows toward warmer air. The sun warms up the east before the west, so winds tend to flow toward the east.
