Why doesn CLC offer Bachelor degree programs?

A. The mission of a community college is to provide two-year Associate degrees for students who plan to go on to a four-year school and two-year Associate degrees for those who choose to enter the job force without a four-year degree. As such, community colleges will not offer bachelor degrees. Currently there are a few four-year universities and colleges in Lake County but the nearest Illinois state supported institutions are in Chicago. The University of Wisconsin Parkside in Kenosha has traditionally given Lake County graduates of CLC a very competitive tuition break. The University Center is located on the grounds of the College of Lake County but it is an altogether separate school. The College of Lake County will maintain its mission as a community college providing two-year associate degrees and many various career certificates. The University Center does offer a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science; it is an online degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
