Why doesn’t insurance cover visits to licensed naturopathic doctors?

In the state of Virginia there is no insurance coverage because licensing for naturopathic medicine is not regulated. Without Virginia licensure, there is no legal difference between a naturopathic doctor and a “traditional naturopath” (see above.) Thus, in states where there is no legislation to distinguish N.D.s from traditional naturopaths, insurance will not cover naturopathic care.
