Why Doesn’t Modern Construction Use Gable Roof Framing?

You may wonder if gable roof framing is so great, why do builders use other types of roof framing. Gable roof framing is easy to calculate. However, most builders tend to use truss roofing now. Truss roofing has many benefits that gable roof framing will never be able to compete with. Truss roofing involves having many trusses attached to the rafters instead of simply supporting the rafters at each end. This allows the roof to bear more weight, since the weight is distributed between the different trusses. In some cases, the truss roof is supported by other trusses or by walls that are designed to be load bearing walls. This is why you want to make sure that you are not cutting into a load bearing wall when you are making alterations to the inside of your home.
