I travel a lot for business. I’m sure some of you do as well. I’ve asked the above question to airline representatives and they swear that they do enforce the rules. Of course, anyone who has traveled by air sees passengers that flagrantly violate the carry-on rules and check-in agents, TSA agents, and gate agents at the airport just let people pretty much haul whatever they want on a plane without forcing them to check in their oversized luggage. The flight I took last Friday included a huge band that was going on some tour. The airline allowed these musicians to carry on their instruments. We’re not talking flutes and clarinets, we’re talking guitars of various sizes, but all of which were huge. Before half the plane was loaded – and after the musicians boarded, the gate and boarding personnel started telling everyone that the overhead bins were full and that they’d have to check in anything that wouldn’t fit under the seat.
