Easter is the Christian festival commemorating Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, but it has its origins in older pagan fertility festivals and the Jewish festival of Passover. The rebirth of Jesus is associated with the renewal and regrowth of spring. Many of the traditional symbols of Easter, such as Easter eggs and the Easter Bunny, originate in the older pagan festivals of spring, symbolising fertility and rebirth of nature after the cold winter. It is this emphasis on fertility and renewal that makes spring flowers an ideal gift for Easter. Flowers particularly associated with Easter around the world are lilies, pussy-willow and narcissus.
