This has little to do with the ratio of males to females and unfortunately you have already discovered advice about ratios in colony breeding to be incorrect. This is all about what happens in colony breeding budgies. Other females will decide they like a certain nest or two and they will claim it for themselves. In doing so anything in that nest gets thrown out or smashed or killed. ……eggs, babies, it doesnt matter. Parents will fight for keeping their nest or protecting it and they will be injured. Some budgies will sit on top of a nestbox they claimed, stop any other budgie go in through the nestbox hole and in doing so any babies in there wont get fed. Also you only have one nestbox per pair of budgies and the recommended amount is TWICE the number of boxes per pair so there is choice. You have chosen the hardest way ever to breed budgies and you will have loss of life and at very least illnesses due to the stressful environment going on in there. Best thing is always to have t
