Almost 43% of the worlds freshwater turtles and tortoises are listed as THREATENED in the 2004 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Many new Australian species will be included on the Threatened Species list the moment they are described by science. Strategy Statement Our purpose is to undertake, promote and fund research projects for all Australian freshwater turtle species as necessary. This research will include field studies, protection and management of wild populations and development of recovery plans and ex-situ breeding programs.
