Why Government of India does not provide support price to onion and garlic?

0

Ans.: Onion and garlic are perishable commodity, hence it cannot be stored like wheat, rice and other food grains for longer period. It requires special type of storage structures and occupies huge area. Unless season wise crop planning is done, storage capacity is increased and logistic support is provided there cannot be steady supply in the market and hence prices fluctuate. It will not be possible for any government to purchase, store and market the perishable commodities and therefore government is not able to provide support price. However, congenial conditions for production, storage, transport and marketing created by government will help in stabilizing market prices.
