Why has CEG been successful?
The cost of CEG is around 150,000 per annum per PCT. CEG is clinically-based and academically led by three GPs who also hold joint appointments as senior lecturers. The group has close connection with other academic staff and has promoted excellent joint working with hospital consultants. It has maintained a ‘bottom-up’ approach closely connected to participating practices who, together with the PCT, are represented on the Steering Group. It has been the ability to respond and adapt to the changing needs of primary care staff and PCTs without losing touch with the need for good clinical evidence that has ensured continuing and increasing support from all major stakeholders. This is connected public health in action. Facilitators provide the link between planning and activity. Data management staff ensure that high quality computer data reliably informs change. No ivory towers this programme has firmly embedded academic excellence in the diversity of day to day primary care. Author: Dr
