Why has no objection been raised to a new development where the roads are too busy/too narrow/not safe etc?
We provide highways/transport advice on all but the very smallest of developments. Our remit is to look at safety, capacity and ‘sustainable’ access. There is clear government guidance on these matters backed up and clarified by decisions taken by planning inspectors (which is how disputes between developers and local authorities are resolved). We must, therefore, always have sound reasons for recommending development is refused. Developers will often overcome our concerns by modifying their proposals.
