Why has the international response been so poor in light of the great response of the American people during the Tsunami?

In fact, the international response has actually been very heartwarming – particularly given the fact that the magnitude of the devastation is still unfolding. Donations large and small have either been sent or promised from foreign Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies such as Australia ($10 million), India ($5 million), China ($100,000), and even Sri Lanka ($25,000). More than 80 technical experts from over 10 countries are already either in the U.S. or are on their way with many more National Societies offering to send people to us as soon as we identify a need for their help. Mexico and Hurricane Katrina – Canada have played a particularly large role as have many European Red Cross societies.
