Why hasn “Superman IV” been re-released to video?

A. As a matter of fact, it has…at least in the U.S. Until last year, the rights to “IV” were tied up in legal knots due to different companies owning different components of the Cannon library. Viacom (via Paramount Domestic Television) continues to own the TV rights to the Cannon Films library (“Superman IV” is a Cannon Films co-production). But most of Cannon’s films (including “American Ninja”, “Cyborg”, “Missing In Action”, and the J. Lee Thompson remake of “King Solomon’s Mines”) are now owned by MGM. Warner Home Video reissued “IV” on VHS, while appearing for the first time on DVD…both in May of 2001. This was domestically, of course. As far as we know, the international video rights have not yet been settled.
