Why is Hba1c tested?
Hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c) is tested to ascertain average blood glucose control over a 2-4 month period of time. Diabetics may test their blood sugar at certain times of the day (or not at all) and HgbA1c will indicate overall blood glucose control, averaging out the highs and lows. A HgbA1c of 7.0% or more indicates poor blood sugar control. (A nondiabetic will have a HgbA1c of less than 6%).
