Why is a humans sense of smell worse than that of other animals?

Human’s sense of smell is not worse than that of all animals, but compared to our fellow mammals it is genereally quite poor. It is simply that no species develops a hightened ability in all its senses. Humans have evolved to depend mostly on senses other than smell. We have relatively good eyesight and taste for example. Just to use an example, if a baby is born blind the neurones in the brain normally used for eyesight are taken over for use in hearing etc, in a noramal human brain more neurones are used for sight and other senses than for smell.
