In order to maintain a level of quality, independence and impartiality there is an accreditation organization whose job it is to oversee all other accreditation organizations. The Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is charged with the responsibility of ensuring that only recognized accreditors and accredited schools are listed as members. By maintaining a public record of recognized accreditors and accredited schools, diploma mills and low-quality schools have a harder time of being “accredited” by fake accreditation organization. If the distance learning school in which you’re considering claims to be accredited, check the CHEA website at http://www.CHEA.org.
