Why is D-Day the most important battle of WW2?

It wasn’t. It was very important but it was one of several equally important battles such as the Battle of Midway, Battle of Britain , Stalingrad, Singapore etc. It could be argued that the Second Battle of El Alamein in 1942 was the most important of the battles against German and Italian forces. In this the British Eighth Army under Montgomery smashed Rommel’s forces in North Africa and sent them fleeing westwards in a retreat that ended in the total destruction of Axis forces in North Africa. If Montgomery had lost this one the Axis forces would have taken the Suez Canal enabling Germany a direct link through the Indian Ocean to Japan, acquired all the massive oil reserves of the Middle East ( oil was always a problem for the Germans) and allowed the Axis to open a southern front against the Soviets through Iran which would probably have resulted in the Germans winning the Battle of Stalingrad which was underway at the time.
