Why is DaVita’s PEP (Patients Enriched by Partnership) department piloting this program?
We believe this program will help patients to form lasting friendships, to feel better about dialysis, and to do better on dialysis. Bringing pairs of patients together from across the country who have a lot in common can help address the feeling many patients express that no one can understand what they are going through. It can also help patients be more engaged in their care. Also, dialysis patients sometimes feel lonely. Having a pen pal can alleviate that feeling. Finally, we think getting and sending mail is fun. Everyone on dialysis deserves to have some fun!
