Why is Des Plaines called the “City of Destiny?
The phrase “City of Destiny” was coined by Murray Smith, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, and Jack Hughes of Littlefuse, Inc., in the 1950s. O’Hare Field had just come into being and they envisioned major growth for Des Plaines. The phrase was used by the Chamber and became permanently associated with the City of Des Plaines.
