Why Is Divorce Unacceptable In Traditional Societies?

0

Largely due to the church, which plays a strong role in regulating peoples choices and behavior. For example, in a catholic country, you will be the odd one out, and be made to feel that, way. Often if a marriage has broken down, the couple will remain living together in the same house with no relationship, but keeping up the façade of marriage. This is mainly for the benefit of the family, who place greet pressure on them to maintain the marriage, and not destroy the lives of their children, if they have any. The law too, has been very influenced by this teaching, and in fact, until very recently, getting a divorce in a catholic country, was impossible. Now it takes five years, and is very costly. The church however, does not recognise this and will not remarry a divorced person, nor will they be able to partake in communion.
