Why is early detection important for all cancers?

All cancers start as a single mutated cell. This cell divides and becomes the start of a tumor. As it gets larger, sometimes single cells break away to start new tumors elsewhere. When cancer is detected early, there is less risk that it has spread elsewhere and a single cancer site is much easier to treat than multiple sites, particularly as with multiple sites it becomes more likely that inoperable sites become involved.
