Why is enlightenment the ultimate aim in Buddhism?
It is very apparent that everyone wants happiness and does not want unhappiness or suffering. However, people often seek happiness using the wrong approaches or misunderstands the differences between momentary bliss and long-term ultimate happiness. Momentary bliss is changeable and does not last for long period. On the other hand, long-term ultimate bliss is eternal and unchangeable and this is Enlightenment. Thus, since the enlightenment is the ultimate blissful state that the enlightenment becomes the ultimate aim in Buddhism.
