Why is GAP clothing called GAP?

I read the other comment and I’m sorry to say it is very wrong. The Gap was named “Gap” because it was meant to bridge the gap between generations.
The other comment also mentioned the order the stores were opened which is also incorrect.
The Gap was the first store founded in 1969 by Don Fisher and his wife, as a jean warehouse selling Levi’s. We then started producing our own high quality denim.
Later we bought the rights to the store Banana Republic. Banana republic was founded in 1974. It became the luxury brand of the two. Gap then opened another store Old Navy which was founded in 1994 to appeal to the masses with clothing projected at reasonable prices. The name of the company has nothing to do with the other stores we own as part of the Gap Brand Family, but rather the initial mission of the store and our founder to bridge the “Gap” between the past current and future generations by providing fashion forward clothing that will always be in style.

p.s our custom denim line is named Gap 1969 Denim in remembrance of the year the company was founded.

Trust me I am an employee.

GAP is named GAP because there are 3 stores made from the same guy: Old Navy Gap and Banana Republic Thats the order they were created in, and the guy called gap, the gap, cuz its the gap between old navy and banana republic. He once said that in an interview (my mum told me cuz she is a fan of these stores, im sorry i forgot what the guys name is again.. but yeah) And it is not GAY AND PROUD thats bs!
